Plasma Canvas release “new punk ripper” Firecracker! Stream via BrooklynVegan!

APRIL 23, 2020 – FORT COLLINS, CO – Fort Collin’s punk duo Plasma Canvas are previewing their new song “Firecracker” today. Fans can listen to it in full exclusively with Brooklyn Vegan today at this link: LINK

“It’s a song about being a gay woman and having a passing crush on a straight girl,” says guitarist Adrienne Ash. It was inspired by the unique kind of suckiness that comes with knowing that a relationship is just not meant to be, and it’s no one’s fault. It’s a tribute to those intense-but-fleeting-but-intense crushes that twenty-somethings get between crowded, sweaty parties at the local punk house on summer nights, but with the added fun fact that it’s queer as hell.”

Tomorrow, the song will be available on all streaming platforms. “Firecracker” is taken from the band’s upcoming EP KILLERMAJESTIC out June 12, 2020 via SideOneDummy Records. The EP was produced by punk rock hero, Bill Stevenson, who has been an original member of the band Descendents since their inception. He has also produced albums for bands like Rise Against, NOFX and The Lemonheads.

“KILLERMAJESTIC” kicks off with a visceral scream. It’s a burst of pure, primal emotion that sounds like vocalist/guitarist Adrienne Rae Ash’s actual throat is escaping from her body into the big, bad world outside. A blistering re-recording of a song from the band’s 2016 debut album, it’s a bold mission statement that reasserts who Plasma Canvas is now, and what the band is all about. Even more forceful and raw than the original recording – which captured all the angst, frustration and confused emotions that were swirling around inside Ash’s mind and heart until she came out as trans in 2015 – it firmly reasserts the powerful identity of the band.

“That scream came from the fact that it was the first album I had gotten to do completely on my own,” says Ash. “It was the first time I’d ever put together a full record of any kind with any band. I’d been out as a trans woman for a couple of years at that point, so I felt like I’d been standing on a springboard for the first 25 years of my life, and when we recorded that song it was all of it coming out at the same time. When we re-tracked it, I knew that it had to be that intense. I wanted it to feel like what accepting your transness feels like, which is terrifying. It’s like you’ve had someone holding your head under water for your entire life, and then you finally get up the strength to release yourself and take a deep breath and scream really loud.”

Joined by drummer Jude McCarron, the punk rock duo has only begun to share a sense of empowerment and catharsis that can be found on the EP’s five tracks. As much as it’s an insight into what Ash’s day-to-day existence is like, it also serves as a portrait of being a marginalized person in the USA in 2020. As such, even though these songs aren’t explicitly political, they are also inherently political, because, as Ash points out on the band’s Facebook page, for her, even just existing is an act of rebellion.

“Honor The Earth” by Nahko And Medicine For The People from the upcoming album Take Your Power Back (May 15) is out now.

Greetings and welcome to the New Moon in Taurus.

Well, it’s time for a new cycle.  Taurus New Moon indicates unexpected change, which clearly we are all trying to deal with in this abrupt, rude awakening.  Like many of you, I am actively looking for new ways to stay in my grounded center amidst the chaotic flurry of disinformation and crisis.  The ‘worse before better’ scenario is upon us and many are just trying to cope.  However, coping isn’t going to change our situation.  We want the New Earth and therefore we must actively change it.  We have to take matters into our own hands.

This new moon will bring a restless urgency to an already tense time.  My intentions during this turbulent New Moon are challenging ones.  I intend to flow with the urges to break free.  Take this fervent, rebellious energy and find ways to mediate the swirling depressive weight of the world and get fucking creative!  Doing nothing is a failure to capture the opportunities at hand.

Not only is it New Moon, but it’s also Earth Day and single release day!  So, let me introduce to you all, off our upcoming album, the final single ‘Honor the Earth’.

I’m incredibly proud of this song, as it’s been with me for many years now.  I encourage you all to read about The Great Law of Peace from which I drew inspiration.  This is definitely an anthem message for Earth Day!  Honor the Earth, the Mother comes first, live in a good way for Her!

We are partnering with today in an effort to raise and direct funds to grassroots Native environmental groups!  Honor is the only Native organization that provides both financial support and organizing support to Native environmental initiatives.

On this Earth Day, I want to take a minute to remind everyone that the pandemic is not a climate solution.  As much as I would love this to be a silver lining, it is not.  We don’t want millions of people without jobs or without health insurance.  We don’t want this global depression to be the way we decarbonize the economy.  This only further divides us.  A brief pause on our normal emissions doesn’t prove we will continue this in a post Covid-19 world.  But, we must.  Lest we forget, the same populations that are bearing the brunt of the health and economic effects of the coronavirus are the same populations that bear the brunt of fossil fuel pollution — which, in turn, makes them more vulnerable to serious complications.  What’s more, as we sit at home, they are rolling back environmental regulations.  The next multi-trillion dollar crisis is here and steadily worsening and we need to design a stimulus not only to help the U.S. economy recover but to also become more resilient to the climate crisis.

Look, we’re already on borrowed time.  Many of us have been ready for our country and the world to evolve long before the pandemic arrived.  If there is a silver lining, it’s that social norms can and will change in seconds.  Which to me says there is hope for us to have a collective hive mind.  Let’s take this global heath crisis a million steps further and demand climate justice.  Returning to a system that doesn’t value our health or of vulnerable communities is not an option.  The climate crisis does not have a peak.  Creating a regenerative system that works for all of Creation is imperative and the opportunity is now, if we can take it.

“Frasco has this natural knack for blending danceable funk-rock and soul into songs that are actually fun to ingest, even if the subject matter is depression.”
American Songwriter

Andy Frasco has released the latest single “None Of Those Things” off of his upcoming LP Keep On Keepin On’. The track premiered on his podcast, his new FB Live Steam Andy Frasco’s World Saving Shitshow as well as exclusively with Relix.

His upcoming LP Keep On Keepin’ On is out April 24th via SideOneDummy Records. The album is a powerful musical snapshot of what’s going on with Andy, his band and his fans. It’s a therapeutic helping of rock n roll with powerful pop and Americana roots influence. “Keep On Keepin’ On lands somewhere between an emotionally raw therapy session and a rowdy house party.”

When first announcing the LP Frasco shared a special “Wellness” video album trailer, “We all have things that make us who we are. Some things are just uncomfortable to talk about, so we tend to suppress those feelings because we don’t want our friends and social media followers to look at us as weak. It’s time to speak up about not just the good things in our life but the bad as well. This is who I am.”

Physical pre-orders for Keep On Keepin’ On are available today. The pre-orders include CD/Vinyl and a variety of bundles.
