Earlier this summer, we blew the lid off of Australia’s best-kept secret, Brisbane-based alternative rock band Violent Soho
. The band has been on fire as of late; from chart-climbing hit singles to having their entire headlining tour completely sell out in advance, including multiple dates in each city! Needless to say, it’s about time we catch up to what Australians have been tuned into for years.
Today marks the official launch of the U.S. pre-order for Violent Soho’s groundbreaking album Hungry Ghost, out September 30, along with their video for “In The Aisle” onThe A.V. Club. Directed by Tristan Houghton, the video follows a proud and confident naked dude as he cycles throughout Brisbane in an attempt to spread his pro-nudism message. Despite it’s mature and potentially NSFW content (don’t worry, it’s all blurred out) , it’s an undeniably charming and fitting video for the song, which explores the struggle that anyone living outside of the norm might feel.
Produced by Bryce Moorhead (“the Steve Albini of Brisbane”), the songs that wound up on Hungry Ghost (originally released by IOHYOU in Australia) are bound to excite the masses here in the states, too. Whether it’s the throat-tearing chorus of “Covered in Chrome” or the lush melody of “Saramona Said”, the album is loaded with unforgettable hooks, headbang-for-days riffs and sing-a-longs worthy of rock’s gnarliest moments from down under.
Yep, you heard it here first dudes. For the first time ever, Superdrag’s unforgettable 1998 record Head Trip In Every Key will be available on vinyl! In addition to the 13-track double LP, we will also release Jokers W/ Tracers, the complete set of sought-after Head Trip demos, on August 12, 2014.
Pre-orders for both are available now via: http://s1dm.my/superdrag_new
How stoked are you right now?!!
Yo. Remember when you were first getting into punk and there were those couple songs that you just HAD to hear? Like, if you’re first diving into punk, you’ve gotta listen to stuff from The Clash, Joy Division, Sex Pistols, Black Flag, etc.
Sometimes that required a newer band you loved covering the song to help get you into the OG band’s discography. Well luckily for any of you fools who haven’t heard of a little ol band called Buzzcocks (and for those who have), our boys PUP recorded this incredible cover of “Ever Fallen In Love” for The AV Club’s Undercover series. And guess what? Big shocker. Get ready.
IT FREAKING RULES.
Watch it here and then go listen/buy everything from Buzzcocks because duh.
Earlier today, our friends at Esquire helped premiere the new video from Chuck Ragan for “You And I Alone”, off his most recent album Till Midnight. The video was filmed at El Matador Beach in Malibu, CA by the amazing Daniel Escallon and his team at Anthem Films. Check it out via the link below and tell us what you think!
We’re SOOOOOOO stoked to finally share this news with you guys. We signed a bitchin’ band from Brisbane, Australia called VIOLENT SOHO! Sure, you may not know the name now but trust us– you will. From the moment we first heard the chorus of their fists-in-the-air anthem “Covered In Chrome”, we were hooked. We even started closing out every meeting with a team “HELL FUCK YEAH!” to celebrate how much we loved this band!
Anyway, check out the video for “Covered In Chrome” below (WTF is going on with that hair?! Guess ya have to watch to find out…) and don’t hate if the song gets stuck in your head for the rest of time:
We’ll be releasing their new album Hungry Ghost on September 30 but you can pick up their singles “Covered In Chrome” and “Tinderbox” TODAY via iTunes: http://s1dm.my/coveredinchrome_itunes.
